Help on migrating from SQL7 to SQL2K
We just installed a new server with SQL2k (OS win2k) on it. We have an old
SQL7.0 server (OS NT4). It has a few databases, jobs, packages and etc. I
like to transfer and convert all the data from SQL 7.0 to the new SQL 2k
server. Can someone tell me what is the best way to do so?
Thanks,

Help on code in a SP
I'm currently auditing some SQL servers to have an overview on what's
running/existing in the different databases.
On one of the server, I found User's Stored Procedures in MSDB databases
(which, I think is already not a good idea). My problem is that I can't get
the usage of the SPs.
All are built on the same model : all the code is written on 1 line only.
Here is the full code of one the SP:
-- beginning of the code --
create procedure <SP_Name> (@.IntID binary(8),@.Z_BranchID_Z int,@.Z_VS_Z
int,@.IconLibrary varchar(255)=null,@.IconID int=null,@.ShowCollections
bit=null,@.Z_VE_Z int=2147483647) as insert RTblClassExtension values
(@.IntID,@.Z_BranchID_Z,@.Z_VS_Z,@.Z_VE_Z,@.I
conLibrary,@.IconID,@.ShowCollections)
GO
-- end of the code --
If someone would have any clue abotu what's this SP is doing...

Help on code in a SP
I'm currently auditing some SQL servers to have an overview on what's

On one of the server, I found User's Stored Procedures in MSDB databases

All are built on the same model : all the code is written on 1 line only.
Here is the full code of one the SP:

(@.IntID,@.Z_BranchID_Z,@.Z_VS_Z,@.Z_VE_Z,@.IconLibrary ,@.IconID,@.ShowCollections)
GO
-- end of the code --
If someone would have any clue abotu what's this SP is doing...

Help needed...badly
A connection could not be established to MAINSERVER.
Reason: Data source name not found and no default driver specified.
Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Server registration properties (by right-clicking on the MAINSERVER node) and try again.
I did this and everything looks right...but I am still getting this message. I would really appreciate some help on this, as we have an update to run on one of the databases. But before I run the update, I must move that database off of the partitian it
is on because the partitian is almost full. Any help would be nice. Thank you in advance.
Tom
This sounds like a drivers issue, I assume yoiu are connecting from a seperate machine than the server. Try re-installing the enterprise management tools.

d drill down to the Server level, right before you see the databases running
on your server, I am getting an error message. The message I am getting is
stating:

Help needed about databases!
I'm a newbie to SQL server.... l'm building a website where companies can save important data. I have a SQL server available but I'm not sure how to store the data. Should I create a new database for every user or should I store everything in the same database and then use a UserId to recognize the data and the user? What about the case where I reaches let's say 1000 users in the one user per database case, it would be extremly difficult to have an overview of the databases or what?
The data stored for each user are stored in tables which are exactly the same so all tables could be gathered into one table and then a UserId could tell which records belong to whom.
Hope my english isn't too bad..otherwise just ask me questions and I'll get back A.S.A.P.
Regards
Joachim
You probably should just use a single database. Unless there are overriding issues like you distribute the database to the company. Then you wouldn't want one company to get another companies data. I'm assuming there is a single application where all the companies log in to the same site. If each company has separate sites, then you might actually need separate apps (and databases) for each.
Single app / db is easier to maintain but realize that changes for one then apply to all.

HELP- need to convert SQL 6.5 Back Up to 2000
I have made enterprise manager back ups of two databases
on a SQL 6.5 server. The back ups are .dat files. I
want/need to convert these to SQL 2000 or SQL 7.0. I have
a SQL 2000 server. I tried to create a new database on
the SQL 2000 server and then restore the back ups to the
SQL 2000 server's new database I just created. I get an
error saying that the back up is not valid.
What is the procedure for getting this .dat 6.5 back up to
SQL 2000?
mick2767@.hotmail.comWhat you should do is to use the Upgrade Wizard... If you have the SQL 6.5
server with the dbs installed... Simply go to program files -> SQL Server
and you will find the upgrade wizard... That's the way to go.!

over existing database is checked. That might solve your problem.

help moving system databases
i need to move my system databases to a new drive. i've been reading kb
article 224071. it says to do model before msdb, but it doesn't say
when to do master. so do you do master first or last?
master is independent from the others, as you don't attach or reattach
master, you just change the location in the startup properties in Enterprise
Manager.
